Reading program for Matthew’s Gospel during 2011 Lent

“Reading Matthew’s Gospel with a little on the side”

Introduction:

This program emerged when a few wanted more than just a challenge to read one of the Gospels during Lent. Since people read at different speeds, some found last year with Luke’s gospel that it was hard to discuss with others who accepted the challenge. Hence I divided the Bible into sections for each week of Lent.

I have used the CATHOLIC SERENDIPITY BIBLE as a source for prepare, study and share. There are suggestions on every page of the entire Bible to go deeper. I have randomly chosen one passage to study each week [to do some deeper study and prayer.] This was random.

Format each week:

I have chosen to do one section prior to Ash Wednesday (March 9) as an introduction to Jesus. From Ash Wednesday there is another guideline. The final one is meant for Easter Week. I will make the next one available the Saturday prior.

I plan to send the guides on the following dates: March 4 – intro #1; March 8 - #2; March 11 - #3; March 18 - #4; March 25 - #5; April 1 - #6; April 8 - #7; April 15 - #8; April 24 Easter - #9. These will also be posted on this website (www.cfcbermuda.com) on the same dates.

The format is:

III. Read Matthew

IV. Study

V. Share

VI. Read the balance of the section of Matthew

VII. Thoughts at the end of the week

Follow-up:

If anyone is interested in studying a different or additional passage in the section that I have chosen, feel free to do so. I also encourage you to share the last section (VI) with some of your friends who are also reading Matthew’s Gospel.
